Project expert / Software developer in ship simulation

to the Faculty of Technology and Seafaring, Novia UAS, Aboa Mare

The software developer will work in the project "Applied Research Platform for Autonomous Systems" (ARPA), which develops a testing environment for autonomous ships. ARPA is implemented together with Turun ammattikorkeakoulu between 1.10.2020-31.10.2023. The project receives funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture. Novia specifically examines the digital twins of ship systems and maritime traffic. Existing simulation models are utilized in the development. The goal is to develop Aboa Mare simulators as a test environment for future marine technology. 

The duties include 

  • design and produce digital twins in shipping using 3D and physics models 
  • together with Novia's simulator team, evaluate simulator development needs to be able to develop and test digital twins in the simulator
  • carry out development work, investigations and tests in the simulator
  • participate in the other tasks of the ARPA project 
  • participates in collaboration with project partners and partner companies 

We are looking for you who have 

  • an appropriate university degree in physics, technology or ICT
  • 3-5 years’ experience in simulation / programming 
  • simulation and modelling experience, skills in using CAD and other 3D modelling programs, experience with CAE simulation programs and / or Unity or similar game programming software
  • skills in working independently, but have also good cooperation skills
  • a proactive and enterprising personality
  • an interest in new technologies and ongoing research
  • a problem-solving mindset
  • good written and oral knowledge of English and Swedish or Finnish

We would like you to have research and project experience and experience in ICT or marine technology. Experience in shipping and simulators is seen as a merit. 

Salary according to collective agreements for the private education industry and internal directives. The position includes a probationary period of six months. 

The employment is for the period 19.4.2021 - 30.9.2023 or by agreement.
