Dynamic Positioning Induction Course

4-day course that introduces the trainees to various DP operational modes through theory and practical simulator exercises. The DP Induction course is accredited by Nautical Institute. The simulator exercises are carried out with Navis NavDP simulator.

Upon completing this training, the participant will

  • have acquired knowledge of the principles of Dynamic Positioning
  • have acquired a basic understanding of how to set up a DP system
  • have an understanding of the practical operation of associated equipment, including position reference systems
  • be able to recognize the various alarm, warning and information messages
  • be able to relate the DP installation to the ship system, including (but not limited to) power supply, manoeuvring capacity, available position reference systems and nature of work operations
  • be able to relate DP operations to the existing environmental conditions of wind, sea state, current/tidal stream and vessel movement

The Dynamic Positioning Induction course is designed for Deck Officers, DP operator trainees and other DP system users who has decided to start the Nautical Institute’s Dynamic Positioning Operator (DPO) training scheme.
